Founder - Roy Englebrecht
Roy Englebrecht is owner of Roy Englebrecht Promotions and Roy Englebrecht Events, two of California’s largest fight promotions companies promoting 30 boxing and mma shows in 2009. Oscar De La Hoya purchased Roy Englebrecht Promotions in December of 2001 and Golden Boy Promotions was formed with Roy serving as COO for the first three years. At the end of 2004 he left Golden Boy Promotions and reestablished Roy Englebrecht Promotions as its boxing arm. In 2006 Roy Englebrecht Events Inc. was formed to promote Mixed Martial Arts and other ventures with Roy serving as owner and CEO.
Roy Englebrecht Events currently owns Fight Promoter University, the Mixed Martial Arts “Fist Series” concept, Entrepreneurship Dreams University, Paparazzi University, and its newest concept Professional Mixed Martial Arts League. Fight Promoter University held its inaugural three day session in February of 2006 with 33 students, and this first of its kind fight promotions training experience gained world wide attention. Over 120 future fight promoters from 24 states and 5 foreign countries have attended the first six FPU sessions. The next Fight Promoter University session, FPU VII is set for April 2010. Englebrecht was also hired by the Fox Network in 2002 to serve as Event Coordinator for their unique Celebrity Boxing Shows, which garnered great ratings.
Roy Englebrecht Promotions promotes the highly successful Battle in the Ballroom professional boxing shows at the Irvine Marriott Hotel. This bi-monthly professional boxing show is now in its 25th consecutive year at the Irvine Marriott, and is the longest running club pro boxing show in the country. 36 current or former world champions have fought at the Marriott, including Shane Mosley and Johnny Tapia. In 2006 he became the first boxing promoter to promote Mixed Martial Arts shows in California, and also introduced Mixed Martial Arts to his Battle In The Ballroom concept, with the inaugural FIST SERIES, which includes WinterFist, SpringFist, SummerFist, and OctoberFist shows.
Roy Englebrecht Events has been hired by the Orange County Fair and the Big Fresno Fair to promote mixed martial arts shows during their fairs with over 4,000 spectators attending each show. They also were hired by Table Mountain Casino to promote their Melee On The Mountain mixed martial arts series and was retained by Affliction Entertainment and M-1 Global to consult in their mixed martial arts ventures in the United States.
Englebrecht has been involved with minor league sports for the past 25 years, as one of the original owners of one of the most successful minor league baseball franchises ever the California League Class A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He also had ownership in the Arena Football League’s Anaheim Piranhas and the West Coast Hockey League’s Reno Rage. For the past 25 years he has owned and operated Sportscaster Camps of America, the leading sports broadcasting training school in America with over 2,250 alumni.
From 1975 - 1981 Roy served as Director of Promotions for the Los Angles Lakers, Los Angeles Kings, and all Forum events. While at the Forum, Roy developed The Laker Girls dance team, and coordinated the 1980 Lakers Championship Parade. He currently is on the faculty and advisory board for the Sport Management Masters Degree programs at the University of San Francisco and Long Beach State. In September of 2009 he was inducted into the California Boxing Hall of Fame.
Roy has been married for 39 years to Nancy, a real estate agent in Newport Beach. They have two children, Allison West, 34, a former college and pro volleyball player who is married to former pro soccer player Matty West, and a son Drew, 30, a 2004 graduate of Vanguard University. Englebrecht earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from John Brown University where he is a member of their Sports Hall Of Fame, and a Master of Education graduate degree from Northeastern Oklahoma State University.
